Prep Sports Roundup: Leland wins Houghton Lake Invite

HOUGHTON LAKE — Leland went undefeated, only allowing one goal in four games, to win the Houghton Lake Invitational girls soccer tournament on Saturday.

The Comets (4-0) downed Roscommon 3-1 in the championship game. Libby Munoz had two first-half goals and added a third score in the second half to lead Leland. Delaney Drake had an assist.

Jessica Fleis was in goal for all four games for the Comets, allowing just a penalty kick after regulation of the first half.

Leland’s other wins came over Ithaca, 4-0, Houghton Lake, 1-0, and Tawas, 2-0.

Whitney Schaub had three goals in the first three games for Leland. Munoz added two goals and three assists, Olivia Fellows and Lydia Gulow added goals, and Drake and Mariela Corona had assists.

Manistee 1

Danielle Merwin scored with an assist to Hannah Weber as Suttons Bay tied Manistee 1-1.

The Norse (0-1-1) host East Jordan today.

Cadillac girls win Rodes Relays

The Cadillac girls track team won four events to take first overall at the Rodes Relays at Kingsley.

The Vikings took top honors in the pole vault relay (19-6), high jump relay (12-10), 100 meter relay (42.15) and the 400 relay (56.53).

Manton took second, led by its winning discus relay team (241-3).

St. Francis had two firsts, including a new meet record in the distance medley relay (13:33) from the team of Emily Gallagher, Grace Jones, Erin McDonnell and Holly Bullough. The Gladiators also took first in the 1,600 relay (4:31).

The host Stags won the shot put (89-9), long jump (40-11 1/4), shuttle hurdles (1:15) and high hurdles (56.81).

Traverse City Central won the 1,600 run relay (18:01), Hart was first in the 3,200 relay (10:22) and Leroy-Pine River was first in the 800 relay (1:56.8).

BASEBALL

TC West starts the season perfect

Traverse City West started its season with three wins in three games, sweeping a pair of games from Benzie Central, 14-3 and 7-1, then defeating Traverse City St. Francis, 5-1.
