Prep Volleyball Roundup: Titans clinch BNC outright

PETOSKEY — Traverse City West clinched the Big North Conference volleyball title outright Wednesday night — without coach Emily Baumann.

Baumann was in the hospital, awaiting to give birth.

With Lydia Lovejoy and Emily Noss filling in on the bench, the Titans defeated Petoskey 25-10, 25-9, 25-21.

“They played really well,” Noss, the JV coach, said. “They didn’t need much coaching. They went in and took care of business. They had fun. They were very fluid, very smooth. That’s one of the best (matches) I’ve seen them play this year.”

The Titans are now 11-0 in the league and finish up Big North play next Wednesday with Gaylord.

West, 32-8-1 overall, was led by Katie Placek (15 kills, nine digs), Anna O’Hara (14 kills, two digs), Ally Peters (16 digs), Olivia Bishop (six kills, four blocks) and Mattison Mokanyk (six aces, 36 assists).

The West JV won 16-25, 25-13, 25-16 behind the play of Emily Nunemaker (14 kills, three digs), Lexi Peters (seven kills), Riley Fedewa (three kills, three blocks), Sarah Patten (five kills), Victoria Green (22 digs) and Makenna Mattson (two aces, one kills, five digs).
