---- — Christian regional moved to Cadillac

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Christian will face Whitehall tonight in a Division III regional soccer final in Cadillac.

The match starts at 6 p.m.

The regional started out in Big Rapids on Tuesday as Christian defeated Ludington 3-1 and Whitehall downed Tawas 3-2.

The Division I regional final between Traverse City West and Rochester Adams will be played Saturday in Midland. That match will start at 1 p.m. West played in Midland on Tuesday night, edging Walled Lake Central 2-1 in overtime. Rochester Adams advanced with a 1-0 win over Clarkston.

The Division IV regional at Muskegon will be played Friday night. That match will pit Bellaire and Muskegon Catholic. Bellaire defeated Big Rapids Crossroads Academy 5-2 Tuesday while Catholic downed Leland 2-0. Friday’s game is at 7 p.m.

Two Hounds earn MJHL honors

TRAVERSE CITY — Two Traverse City Hounds received Player of the Week awards in the Midwest Junior Hockey League.

Jacob Gillis was tabbed as the Forward of the Week after registering nine points in last weekend’s three-game sweep of the Michigan Ice Dogs. On Friday night, the 19-year-old Traverse City product scored twice in an 8-0 win and then he added three more goals in Saturday night’s 8-2 victory. Gillis finished out the weekend with two goals and two assists in a 6-2 win on Sunday.

Scott Luca was selected Defenseman of the Week. The 19-year-old from Kalkaska notched four points in the three wins. Luca leads all Hounds’ defensemen in scoring with two goals and seven assists.

Bums sign Devine; Dunn honored

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Beach Bums re-signed starting pitcher Mike Devine for the 2014 season.

Devine posted a 6-2 record with a 3.94 ERA last season. The right-hander allowed just four runs in his last 23.2 innings. Devine’s final outing was a four-hit six-inning shutout stint against the Lake Erie Crushers which allowed the Beach Bums to take a 2-1 playoff series lead.

Meanwhile, Beach Bums ace Scott Dunn was selected as one of eight pitchers on the Baseball America All-Independent Leagues Team. The Beach Bums’ right-hander was the only Frontier Leaguer honored on the pitching staff. Dunn won the Brian Tollberg award as the league’s best pitcher by posting a 15-1 record with a 2.61 ERA.

Aquinas tennis workshop Nov. 16

ACME — The public is invited to the annual Aquinas College men’s tennis team workshop on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa.

The event begins at noon with a lunch presentation by coach Jerry Hendrick geared for junior players and their parents. A tennis clinic is scheduled between 1-3:30 p.m. The clinic will feature station work with players from the team. That will be followed at 3:30 p.m. with a pro-am match.
