GAYLORD — Traverse City West cruised to a 48-0 victory Friday at Big North Conference foe Gaylord to remain in playoff contention.
The Titans (5-3) host Allendale (6-1) next Friday in an 8 p.m. doubleheader nightcap at Thirlby Field.
“We know they have a really good quarterback,” West coach Tim Wooer said of Allendale. “They’re just a solid football team. They and Comstock Park — whoever comes out of that district usually makes a long (playoff) run.”
The Falcons had this week off.
The Titans were up 28-0 at halftime and 48-0 by the end of the third quarter.
West scored on its first offensive play on a Jeff Turnquist pass to Octavion Waugh. Grant Ellison’s 5-yard touchdown run put the Titans up 14-0 by the first quarter’s final whistle.

The Titans added the rushing touchdowns in the third quarter, one each from Noah Malaski (9 yards), Jose Tapia (4 yards) and Quincy Rowan (1 yard).
In his first varsity game, Dan Phifer led West with 79 rushing yards and Grant Balino added 41 on just four carries.
Gaylord was held to 66 yards of total offense, while West accounted for 398. Turnquist hauled in 92 yards of passes, Waugh 43 and Turnquist threw for 199.
