Prep Football Roundup: Area teams clinch playoff berths

KALKASKA — Kaleb Hauser rushed for 240 yards and five touchdowns Friday as Kalkaska clinched a playoff berth with a 40-8 non-conference win over Frankfort.

Hauser scored on runs of 16, 43, 10, 3 and 11 yards. He entered the game needing just 16 yards to reach 1,000. He passed that on Kalkaska’s first possession. He now has 1,224 yards.

Gavin Uitvlugt added 91 yards and a score for the 6-2 Blazers, who led 27-8 at half. Uitvlugt scored on a 32-yard run.

Nick Mitchell had five tackles and Will Noble four to go with an interception. Kalkaska is at Elk Rapids next Friday while Frankfort takes on Onekama.

Grayling 33

East Jordan 26

Jake Swander’s 10-yard pass to Tyler McClanahan with a few minutes remaining was the difference in Grayling’s 33-26 win over East Jordan.

East Jordan had tied the game earlier, but Swander’s third touchdown toss of the night put the Vikings ahead for good. Swander went 14 of 22 passing for 118 yards. McClanahan hauled in five of those passes for 44 yards and two scores. Michael Branch led Grayling’s rushing attack with 96 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns. Kevin Harris chipped in with 84 yards on 13 carries.

Peyton Zigila led the defense with 13 tackles and an interception. Harris tacked on 12 tackles and an interception for the Vikings (7-1), who face Boyne City to wrap up the regular season.

Harbor Springs 20

Charlevoix 14

David Walker accounted for all three Harbor Springs touchdowns in a 20-14 win over Charlevoix.

Walker led a grinding Rams rushing attack that totaled 252 yards on 43 carries and allowed Harbor (3-5) to hold the ball for 33 minutes. Charlevoix only had two possessions in the second half.

The Rayders led 14-12 at halftime, Nate Moon scored on a 16-yard touchdown run and threw a 10-yard scoring pass to Austin Putman. J.J. Bottomley added both extra points.

Moon led the team with 64 rushing yards, Shane Sutherland added 49 and Sam Hovie 41. Putman had 45 receiving yards.
