Actually, two this time.

Traverse City St. Francis defeated Whitehall and Grant by 7-1 scores in Grand Rapids to give the Gladiators dual-meet victories over every other squad in the upcoming 10-team regional.

The Glads switched up their doubles pairings and won seven of eight matches in that area.

“The kids played the best they have played,” TCSF coach Paul Bandrowski said. “The new doubles teams had a lot of energy.”

Bandrowski said the new doubles teams match up players more with their classmates.

The No. 1 doubles team of Jay Jones and Blake Bandrowski won 7-5, 3-6, 10-1 and 6-0, 6-1, while Brady Ray/Nathan Tafelsky won 6-3, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 and Ryan Navin/Jackson Richmond took 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 4. Victor Casler/Tyler Spigarelli topped Whitehall 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, Sam Holmes was 1-1 at No. 1, dropping a 2-6, 3-6 match to one of the state’s top players, Whitehall’s Tell Smith. Holmes posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Grant.

Gus Danz posted 6-4, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 wins Wednesday at No. 2 singles, while Jack Krcmarik won 6-3, 6-4 and 6-0, 6-1 to extend his win streak to 22 straight matches. He’s 27-3 for the season.

Patrick Burke posted convincing 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 wins.

St. Francis is 12-2 in duals this season and has five more coming up in the next three days. The Gladiators travel to Grand Rapids to play Division No. 3 Grand Rapids West Catholic and No. 6 Grand Rapids South Christian on Friday, and stay there for three more duals on Saturday — Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian and Ludington and Kalamazoo Christian, who are tied fro No. 10 in Division 4. The Glads are ranked No. 5 in Division 4.

Regionals are in Ludington in mid-October.
