TCC boys 1st, girls 2nd at MSU

EAST LANSING — Alex Liggett set a school indoor record and Anthony Berry won two races as the Traverse City Central boys track team captured the 16-team Michigan State Invitational on Tuesday.

Central finished with 1,365 points. Davidson was second (1,235.5) and Okemos third (1,197).

Okemos edged Central 1,070.5-1060.5 to win the girls event.

Liggett won the 60-meter hurdles in a school record 8.3 seconds. He was also fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.39). Liggett joined Anthony Kratovil, Devante Walker and Sean Williams on the victorious 800 relay (1:35.34).

Berry, meanwhile, won the 800 (1:59.40) and 1600 (4:31.81). He teamed with Kyle Dotterrer, Zach Hankins and Keefer Edwards to place third in the 3200 relay (8:18.70).

Central’s John Piatek won the shot put (49-0).

Justin Cutler finished second in the pole vault (11-6) while Max Franz tied for fourth (10-0).

Cam McAuliffe came in third in the 3200 (9:57) and Dotterrer third in the 1600 (4:33.49). Edwards placed fourth in the 1600 (4:36.62).

Aaron Taylor finished third in the high jump (6-4), fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.76) and sixth in the long jump (20-2.5).

The girls had the top two finishers in the 3200-meter run and also won the 3200 relay.

Ashley Ko and Molly Peregrine went first and second for Central in the 3200, with both finishing in 11:22. Hannah Keyser was fifth in 12:17. In the 3200 relay Maddy Basch, Joy Reist, Katie Moses and Jordan Mattarella ran a winning time of 10:13.

Central also had multiple top four placers in the 60 meters, the 800 and the 1,600. In the 60, Courtney Cadotte was third (8.1) and Morgan Scollard took fourth (8.16). Reist took third in the 800 (2:31.43) and Lauren Marsh was fourth (2:31.55). Moses ran a second-place time of 5:30.11 in the 1,600 and Basch went 5:33.25 — good for fourth.

In the field events, McKenna Beers placed third in the long jump (16-3), Graceanne Tarsa was second in the pole vault (9-0) and Carissa Bartkowiak was fourth in the high jump (5-0). The Trojans also received a fourth-place finish from Erin Lipp in the 400 (1:04.22). The 800 relay team of Scollard, Cadotte, Jessie Kushner and Beers took fourth (1:51.7).
