Prep Sports Roundup: Central knocks Petoskey out of lead

TRAVERSE CITY — Ethan Pilarski scored with three seconds left Tuesday to give Traverse City Central a 31-30 win over Petoskey, knocking the Northmen out of the Big North Conference lead.

“We needed one and to beat who we did makes it even sweeter,” Central coach Jeff Turner said.

Central (3-9, 3-3) trailed by five, 30-25, with about a minute to play. The Trojans rallied on a Nate Schlusler steal and layup, two Pilarski free throws and then Pilarski’s late basket.

Schlusler led the Trojans with 10 points. Pilarski added nine points, six rebounds, three steals and three assists. Colin Lesoski had a team-high seven rebounds.

Erik Davenport and Quinn Ameel had 10 points apiece for Petoskey.

Central won the JV game 49-46 as Danny Brott and Lucas Rowe scored 13 points apiece.

Petoskey won the freshman game 45-24.

Central travels to Petoskey on Friday.



Boyne City 51

Cheboygan 50

Corey Redman’s free throw with four seconds left gave Boyne City a 51-50 nonleague win over Cheboygan.

It was the second time in two nights the Ramblers have won on Redman free throws in the closing seconds.

Redman finished with 20 points and Maceo Vroman 13 for the Ramblers (6-5), who travel to Charlevoix on Friday.



Burt Lake NMCA 64

Maplewood 52

Aaron Chatfield had 23 points, 14 rebounds, 12 assists and eight steals as Burt Lake NMCA beat Maplewood Baptist 64-52.

Jake Lovitt added 23 points and Robert Taylor 15 points and nine rebounds for Burt Lake (4-4).

GIRLS HOOPS

TC St. Francis 60

TC Central 33

Liza Erickson scored 17 points and Kaitlin Feeney 14 as St. Francis improved to 11-1 with a 60-33 nonleague win over Traverse City Central.

Jesse Hiemstra’s 10 points paced Central (2-9).

The Trojans won the JV game 57-25. Carolyn Wynkoop and Kelsey Acton paced Central (8-3) with 10 points. Lauren McDonnell had six for the Gladiators, who travel to Kalkaska on Friday.

Petoskey 63

Charlevoix 32

Petoskey stretched its win streak to nine with a 63-32 non-league win over Charlevoix.
