Traverse City St. Francis was unable to hold a 14-point lead in the final five minutes and suffered a 70-64 loss to Grayling Wednesday in boys basketball play at St. Francis High School.
The Gladiators (0-2, 0-1 Lake Michigan) were in control and on their way to their first win of the season when Grayling knocked down some three-point shots and forced St. Francis into turnovers. The Vikings went ahead for good with about a minute and a half to play.
Geoff Wilson paced Grayling with 21 points and Justin Juntilla added 17. St. Francis was led by Noah Phillips with 19 points, Byron Bullough with 15 points and Michael Olm with 12.
The Gladiators host McBain on Saturday.
TC West 55
Cadillac senior Jalen Brooks scored 37 points, including going 13 of 14 from the free throw line, in leading Cadillac to a 62-55 victory over Traverse City West.
Traverse City West (1-3), which led 25-23 at halftime, was led by 15 points from Stephan Sheppard and 10 points from Tristan Roman.
Cadillac went 27-for-30 as a team from the foul line to claim the victory.
In the junior varsity game West won 52-32. Josh Roman had 22 points for the Titans. The West freshman beat Cadillac 54-37 as Carson Rosa had 11 points and Evan Neibauer added nine.
TC Central 32
TC Central took its first Big North Conference loss as Petoskey downed the Trojans 52-32.
Jackson Schrameyer had eight points for the Trojans (1-2, 1-1 Big North). Petoskey was led by Parker Momley’s 15 points and 12 from Joe LeBlanc.
Petoskey won the JV game 83-51. For Central, Devante Walker had 13 points.
In the freshman game Petoskey took a 39-32 win. Central was paced by Jordan Ruckle’s 10 points.
Central hosts Gaylord on Friday.
Glen Lake 68
Glen Lake jumped out to a 21-7 lead after one period and cruised to a 68-49 win over Buckley.
Glen Lake’s Jarred Ritter scored 21 points to lead all scorers. Mac Ewing added 15 points and Logan Lacross had 12 for the Lakers (2-2), who held a 35-19 advantage at the half and a 51-29 lead after three quarters. Leading Buckley was Tyler Welch with 19 points.
