TRAVERSE CITY — Chase Joppich scored two goals and assisted on a third as the Bay Reps upended the Tri-Valley Titans 5-1 Saturday night at Centre ICE.
Joppich tallied off assists from Andrew Dzierwa and Gavin Uitvlugt in a 1-1 first period. The Reps took the lead for good on a R.J. Deneweth score in the second period. Zach Bargy and Uitvlugt assisted.
The Reps broke it open with three unanswered goals in the third. Josh Hill, Dzierwa and Joppich lit the lamp. Deneweth assisted on the Hill goal. Joppich set up Dzierwa. Then Dzierwa assisted Joppich.
“We got better as the game went on,” Reps coach Todd Spaulding said.
Jay Jones had 12 saves in goal.
The Reps, 2-2, play Sault Ste. Marie in a tournament downstate next weekend.
Down nine to start the fourth quarter, Grayling rallied for 67-60 win over Kingsley in the Northwest-Lake Michigan Challenge.
Kingsley had used a 26-15 third quarter to build a 43-34 lead.
Tyler McClanahan led the Vikings with 18 points. Justice Junttila added 13.
Jarid Lueck and Tyler Newell scored 18 apiece for the Stags, who face Suttons Bay on Tuesday. Stacy Almquist chipped in 11.
Both teams struggled at the free throw line. Kingsley was 18 of 34, Grayling 15 of 30.
Charlevoix opened a 37-15 lead at half en route to a 60-40 win over Leland in the Northwest-Lake Michigan Challenge.
Nate Moon scored 11 points and Shane Sutherland 10 for the Rayders (1-2). Tyler Leveque netted 10 for Leland.
Charlevoix travels to Elk Rapids on Tuesday in a Lake Michigan Conference opener.
Suttons Bay 53
Harbor Springs 36
Aaron Orban’s 14 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and four blocks led Suttons Bay to a 53-36 win over Harbor Springs in the Northwest-Lake Michigan Challenge.
Devin Capron added 11 points for the 1-1 Norsemen.
Pete Kelbel netted 12 points and Jack Carter 10 for the Rams.

Benzie Central 43
Ryan Carson’s 25 points powered Boyne City to a 64-43 win over Benzie Central in the Northwest-Lake Michigan Challenge.
Boyne City is now 2-0.
Javier Rodriguez scored 13 points for Benzie.
TC West 60
Brighton defeated Traverse City West 66-60 to finish 2-0 in winning the Petoskey Invitational.
The Bulldogs beat Petoskey 53-49 Friday.
Thiyo Lukusa had 17 points to lead West on Saturday. Steve Sheppard added 14 and John Wheelock 11 points and nine rebounds.
The West JV completed a weekend sweep with a 46-41 win over Brighton. Nick Brzezinski led the Titans with 15. Sam Fyfe added nine.
West beat Milford 60-54 Friday behind 13 from Josh Roman and 12 from Chase Grierson.
TC West 27
Lowell outscored Traverse City West by seven at the free throw line and that was the difference in the Red Arrows 33-27 non-league win over the Titans.
Paris Wagner’s 13 points and six rebounds led the Titans.
Lowell won the JV game 38-24. Sara Sievers had 10 points and nine rebounds for West.
The Red Arrows took the freshman game 37-19. Grace Warren scored eight for West.
The Titans host Cadillac on Tuesday.
Titans finish1-4 at Northview
Traverse City West finished 1-4 in a tournament at Northview.
The Titans beat Grand Rapids West Catholic 32-26 and lost to Hamilton 65-24, Otsego 51-29, Holland West Ottawa 61-14 and Saline 66-13.
West’s Vincent Priante was 5-0 on the day at 103, raising his record to 9-0. Jonah Jasman also went 5-0, wrestling at 119 and 125.
Zach Provost at 160 and Korey Johansen at 112 had three wins while Drew Dranzer picked up two wins at 152.
Tyler Post at 119 and Mitchell Ford at 125 each earned one win.
Trojans competeat Michigan Tech
Traverse City Central’s Erin Lipp finished second in the Michigan Tech Christmas Classic 5K women’s cross country ski race.
Copper Country’s Sarah Lyle won the U16-U18 division with a time of 19:24. Lipp was second in 19:43. Central’s Hannah Davis placed sixth in 21:17 and Kendall Minor eighth in 22:32.
Central’s Clay Darling finished sixth in the men’s U18-U20 division 10K with a time of 37:09.
