ROCKFORD — Traverse City West’s Vincent Priante finished second at 103 pounds Saturday in the Division 1 individual wrestling regional at Rockford.
That will advance him to the state finals.
Priante lost to second-ranked Nolan Smith of Portage Northern 6-2 in the championship match. He had earlier beaten Brendan Stevens of Battle Creek Lakeview 9-2 and Hayden Lathroche also of Lakeview 7-4.
Priante is ranked sixth in his division.
Forest Area’s Elliott wins regional crown
Forest Area’s Matt Elliott won the 130-pound division in a Division 3 individual wrestling regional at Rogers City.
Elliott pinned all three of his opponents, including Mancelona’s Mike Meadows in the finals.
Both wrestlers will advance to the state finals.
Forest Area had two other wrestlers advance — Chris Schelske placed second at 152 and Brandon Ames fourth at 171. Manton’s Tristen Rosted won the 171-pound class.
In the Division 3 regional at Kingsley, seven area wrestlers advanced to the state meet. Manistee’s Adam Ball (a co-op student from Onekama) won the 215-pound class with a pin at 1:03 over Clare’s Brendan Hensley in the finals. Ball is now 49-1.
Benzie Central’s Tim Smith took third at 285, beating Tri-County’s Austin Sprik 5-2 in his final match. Smith is 33-11.
Finishing fourth were Kingsley’s Tyler Slater at 119, Manistee’s Jacob Williams (Onekama) at 160, Benzie’s Jared Middleton at 171, Grayling’s Jeff Myers at 189 and Benzie’s Devlin Philo at 215.
Mona Shores 6

Six different Muskegon Mona Shores players scored goals in a 6-2 non-league win over Traverse City Central.
The Trojans (13-9-1) trailed 1-0 after the first period and 4-2 after two.
Derek Schrank and Alex Oliver netted the Central goals. Schrank’s came on the power play off an assist from Rhys Adle. Adle and Cam Givens drew assist on the Oliver tally.
Central outshot Mona Shores 31-28.
The Trojans travel to Sault Ste. Marie on Tuesday.
Bear Lake 60
Manistee CC 44
Riley Merrill’s 12 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks led Bear Lake to a 60-44 West Michigan D win over Manistee Catholic.
Tyler Johnson added 10 points, four rebounds and three steals and Bryson Waller nine points and six rebounds for the Lakers (12-1, 11-1).
Ben Feliczak topped Manistee Catholic with 16.
Benzie, TC West capture league titles
The Benzie Central boys and Traverse City West Green girls captured Great Northwest Conference bowling team titles Saturday.
The team event showcased a Baker-style six-game qualifying round, followed by a bracket finals based on total pins of two Baker games.
Traverse City West Green beat West Gold in the semifinals and then downed Benzie Central 295-262 in the finals. The West Green team is unbeaten.
The Benzie boys beat Elk Rapids, West Green and West Gold en route to the title. The Huskies scores improved throughout the day from 302 to 331 to 348.
The conference’s individual championships were held Friday. St. Francis’ Robert Williams and Glen Lake’s Kary Pleva captured the titles.
Bellaire’s Nick Betten and Traverse City Central’s Bryn Davis were the top seeds coming out the two-game qualifying round. Betten rolled a 425 series in the boys event, Davis a 315 in the girls event. Betten also had the high game in the qualifying round with a 249.
Neither top seed would advance beyond the first round, though, as Betten lost to Williams, seeded 16th, and Davis lost to Glen Lake’s Bryanne Palmer, also seeded 16th. Williams won four head-to-head matches, including in the championship over Traverse City West’s Sawyer Robinson. Williams rolled a 197 in the final.
Pleva was seeded seventh out of qualifying. She rolled a 179 in the semifinals and a 188 in the finals, where she beat Traverse City West’s Corrine Schrotenboer.
Traverse City West’s Amanda Fouchey of TC West rolled a high game of 192 in the girls finals bracket. Robinson and Traverse City Central’s Brad Wozniak each rolled a 201 game on the boys side.
