TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Central will host Bay City Western in a Division 2 football playoff game at 7 p.m. Friday at Thirlby Field.

Traverse City West will travel to Rockford in a Division 1 game Friday. That contest will also be at 7 p.m.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association announced the dates and times Monday.

Other playoff games scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday: Owosso at Cadillac in Division 3, Cheboygan at Ogemaw Heights in Division 4, Manistee at Reed City in Division 5, Kalkaska at Shelby and Glen Lake at Boyne City in Division 6, Whittemore-Prescott at Mancelona and Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian at Lake City in Division 7, Hillman at Johannesburg-Lewiston and Onaway at Central Lake in Division 8.

Two Division 5 games will be played Saturday afternoon — Kingsley at Menominee at 2 p.m. and Grayling at Kingsford at 1 p.m.

Bellaire will host Kingston at 2 p.m. Saturday in an eight-man contest.


Trojans 3rd; Gerber-Terrell win title

Traverse City Central finished third over the weekend in the Michigan High School Sailing Championships at Grosse Ile.

Detroit Country Day took the title. Grosse Pointe South came in second.

Central won an individual state championship when Colton Gerber and Zander Terrell teamed to capture the A Division title. The two combined for 23 points in 10 races on the Detroit River (low score wins).

Dirk Phelps placed third in the C Division.

Eight schools competed.

The Traverse City West freshmen edged St. Francis 25-23, 25-22, 25-23.

Leading the Titans: Olivia Bishop (four aces, four kills), Stephanie DeVries (four assists), Chloe Slack (four kills, one ace), and Emma VanderMeulen (three aces, one kill).
