SHELBY -- Suttons Bay's season ended with a narrow 2-1 loss to Fremont in a Division 3 regional final in Shelby.
Kailey Hindes scored two first-half goals to spot the Packers a 2-0 halftime advantage.
Brandi Albarado booted a free kick over the Fremont defensive wall in the second half to cut the deficit to one, and the Norse had several opportunities to knot it up in the closing minutes.
"The kids played so hard and so great in the playoffs," coach Ryan DeFour said. "We were just one goal short. We were pressuring real hard at the end and got real close."
DeFour said Erin Dingrando stood out on defense and Brittany Mikowski played well in goal.
Fremont improves to 13-10, while Suttons Bay ended the season 9-15-4.
The Norse lose five seniors -- four-year starters Michelle Ness and Chelsea Moyer, three-year players Emily Seeley and Brandi Mikowski and Katherine Stroemmen, who missed much of the year with injuries.
