LAKE ANN -- Even in the spring, it's hard to keep Suttons Bay for a Northwest Conference golf title.
The Norsemen won the first league crown contested in the spring by winning the conference tournament at Mistwood on Monday.
Suttons Bay shot a 327, 10 shots better than Glen Lake. Benzie Central was third (361) followed by Kingsley (366), Frankfort (384) and Mesick (403).
The tournament finish mirrored the final league standings.
Suttons Bay's Charlie Olson was medalist at Mistwood with a 77. Craig Jasinski and Chase Palmer added 83s while Max Evans and Connor Loberg carded 84s.
Matt Abramson had an 83 to lead Glen Lake. Matt O'Brien and Austin Novak added 84s and Steve King an 86.
Sam Hahn's 83 led Benzie Central while Miles Guy topped Kingsley with a 78. Andrew Gaylord's 85 led Mesick while Jack Wilband's 93 was the low score for Frankfort.
Earning first team all-league honors were Olson, Guy, Palmer, O'Brien, Gaylord and Evans.
Suttons Bay's Sam Foster led the second team with Abramson, Wilband, Hahn, King and Novak.

TC West finishes 1-2 at Petoskey JV Invitational
Traverse City West's two JV teams took the top two spots at the Petoskey JV Invitational.
West A won the tournament with a 353, while West B was second with a 375.
Leading the A team were Josh Broad (82), Leland Yanick (83), Aaron Greenman (91) and Corey Thiel (97).
Steven White paced the West B team with an 83. Also counting were Sebby Kucera (89), Kevin Gaston (97) and Chris Dienes (106).
The TC Central White JV was third (432) followed by the TC East freshmen (449) and TC Central Yellow JV (455).
Counting for White were Preston Sanford (102), Tyler Scott (106), Keegan Hall (111) and Matt Jackson (113).
Leading TC East were Jack Stevens (103), Hunter Bergsma (107), Karl Jacobson (117) and Elias Eilers (122). Scoring for Yellow were Chad Rosinski (104), Brian Buckley (112), Leland Wynkoop (115) and Phillips Roster (124).

Central Lake and Onaway split a Ski Valley Conference twinbill.
Onaway won the opener 5-4 despite two hits from Frank King and Travis Rogers.
Central Lake won the nightcap 6-0 as Ryan Crawley gave up just one hit and struck out seven. King and Rogers each had two hits again for Central Lake (14-10, 10-6 SVC), which travels to take on Charlevoix on Wednesday.

Bellaire's Brad Guy threw a no-hitter for Bellaire and Pete Spyhalski struck out 12 in the nightcap for Gaylord St. Mary as the two teams split a Ski Valley Conference doubleheader.
Guy struck out six and was also 2-for-3 at the plate for the Eagles in the 3-0 opener.
The Snowbirds struck back in the nightcap, led by Spyhalski's five-hitter that featured 12 Ks.
Seth Reichard had a 3-for-3 game and Matt Churches and Matt Foster each had two hits and two runs. Joe DeFelice drove in the game-winning run in the top of the fifth.
Taylor Swartz had two hits for the Eagles.
Gaylord St. Mary (9-15, 6-10 Ski Valley) travels to Hillman on Friday.

Mancelona shut out Inland Lakes twice to capture the Ski Valley Conference baseball title.
Greg Blanco allowed only two hits and stuck out four as Mancelona shut out Inland Lakes 5-0 in the first game. Tom Pecar had a hit and drove in two runs while Michael Dalton had a hit and a RBI for Mancelona (18-5).
Tony Derrer scattered three hits and struck out five as the Ironmen won game two by a 2-0 score. Trenton Sweet and Nick Lockman each had a hit in the win.

Grayling improved its record to 17-10 by sweeping Roscommon, 10-6 and 6-4.
Geo Bindschatel (three RBIs) and Ricky Schrieber (RBI) each had two hits. Josh Stapleton was the winning pitcher.
Zac Wolcott picked up the win in game two, allowing six hits. Jake Aubry had two hits and one RBI, Schrieber two doubles and two RBIs and Rocky McNamara one hit and one RBI.

Kalkaska defeated Gaylord in both games of a doubleheader, 4-2 and 12-2.
Travis Schuba struck out 13 as Kalkaska (10-11) won the opener in eight innings.
Craig Miller struck out five to pick up the win in game two. Schuba had four hits -- including two doubles -- and three runs, Blake Gruse two doubles and two RBIs and Kevin Zattlin three hits and three runs for the Blazers, who face Mancelona on Thursday.

Mike Patterson and Scott Thomas hit homers while Seth Lezon and Eric Krueger had two hits as the TC East freshmen edged TC West, 12-10.
Ben Casciano had a grand slam and Jon Oakley a three-run homer for West (12-9-1).
West won the nightcap 6-3 as Frank Gilbert got the win and Dylan Prosch the save. Oakley had two hits while Casciano, Golbert and Oakley had RBIs.
Patterson had a home run and a double for East (16-7).
SOFTBALL

Kalkaska and Gaylord split a doubleheader with the opening game going to extra innings.
Gaylord won game one, 4-3.
Kaiti Jones had three hits and Kara Ponstein two hits and one RBI for Kalkaska (24-7). Marissa Taylor who struck out nine in the loss.
Maria Harbour had a solo home run while Taylor and Jones had two hits as Kalkaska won the nightcap, 6-3. Jen Span stuck out six.

Traverse City West defeated Kingsley in both games of a doubleheader, 4-3 and 9-7.
Kate Culmis struck out eight in the opener. Maureen Montgomery had two hits and drove in two runs.
Jen Hill, Montgomery and Kirsten Robinson each had two hits with Hill driving in two and Robinson scoring two in game two for the Titans (16-20).

Frankfort and Traverse City Central split a double header.
TC Central won the opener 7-5. Kirstin Kidder had two hits.
Allison Webber pitched Frankfort (17-6-1) to a 12-6 win in the nightcap. Laney Eubank had two hits, including a home run, while Kristy Boomer and Allison Popp each had one hit.

Laura Cizek blasted a pair of home runs to lead Traverse City West to a freshman win over TC East.
West won 14-1 and 21-5.
Jen Kennedy and Becky Meyer combined to pitch the opener, with Kennedy fanning nine batters in four innings.
Cizek hit a two-run homer and Taylor Peek had two hits and three RBIs.
In the opening-game loss for TC East, Katie Madison had two hits, Alyssa Groeneveld had a triple and Nicole Miller had a hit and an RBI.
In the nightcap, Cizek belted another homer, this one a three-run job.
Meyer and Shelby Newhouse pitched for the Titans (21-7) and Peek, Katie Kaminski, Megan Stowe and Alison Friar had two hits apiece.
In the nightcap loss for East, Groeneveld went three for three, Mallory Weaver had two hits and Veena Saco had one driving in two runs.

Charlevoix improved its record to 11-1 in the Lake Michigan Conference with an 8-0 win over Boyne City.
Becca Madison and Ariel Ramsey led Charlevoix with two goals each, with KC McCary chipping in with four assists.
Other goal scorers for Charlevoix included Danni Bergmann, Meridith Rich, Madison Way and Abbey Barnes, who all had one.
Charlevoix (14-2 overall) will play in Elk Rapids on Thursday.

Glen Lake 0
Jennifer Harig's overtime goal gave Benzie Central a 1-0 victory over Glen Lake.
Benzie Central (8-7) had a penalty kick and outshot Glen Lake 24 to eight in regulation but was unable to capitalize.
Cheriese Radionoff had the assist on Harig's goal for the Huskies, who play Cheboygan today.
TC Liberty4
Kalkaska 0
Devon Forlenza and Chelsea English split time in net for the TC Liberty shut out over Kalkaska 4-0.
The first goal for the Liberty came in the games first two minutes from Kylie Argyle, assisted by Hélène Dryden. Dryden scored the second goal unassisted soon after. Just before the half English put the Liberty up 3-0. In the second half Julie Doherty had the games final goal assisted by Jessie Heger.
The Liberty are now 10-6.
