It doesn't get any more dramatic than this.
Ellsworth won the day's final event -- the 1600 relay -- to edge Onaway 99-98 to win the Division 4 boys track and field regional at Bellaire on Saturday.
Onaway was second in the 1600 relay.
Burton Jones, Jim Storey, Nolan Howes and Justin Weis ran the 1600 for the Lancers in 3:40.53.
Ashton Fisher paced Ellsworth, taking the 1600 (4:39.88) and 3200 (10:05.89). Howes added a win the discus (131'10"). The Lancers had opened the day by winning the 3200 relay (8:32.74).
Onaway won one event -- Jan O'Bradovich in the long jump (19'4").
Mancelona's Adam Duerksen matched Fisher by winning two individual events. He swept the hurdles, winning the 110 highs (15.24) and 300 intermediates (43.13). Teammate Michael Herczak added a win in the 400 (53.27).
Pellston had three first-place finishes -- Simon Witt in the 100 (11.19), Ridge Hahn in the high jump (6'6") and the 400 relay team (46.04).
Other regional champions included Inland Lakes' Justin Flowers in the 200 (23.50), Rogers City's T.J. Sobeck in the 800 (2:05.99), Gaylord St. Mary's Arron Sitkiewicz in the shot put (43'2"), Fairview's Norman Berry in the pole vault (11'6") and Johannesburg-Lewiston in the 800 relay (1:35.59).
Tia Rogers captured two events to spark Fairview to the girls title. The Eagles finished with 121 points. Joahnnesburg-Lewiston was second with 105.
Rogers claimed the long jump (14'6") and the 200 (27.96). Morgan Wiedbrauk captured the discus (102'4") and Indigo Szubelak the high jump (4'10") for the Eagles.
Inland Lakes won six events, including Brianna Ohlert in the pole vault (8'), Becky Rotter in the 400 (1:02.90) and Megan Bruniquel in the 100 hurdles (16.97). The Bulldogs also claimed three relays -- the 400 (54.70), the 800 (1:53.66) and 1600 (4:32.75).
Central Lake's Kari Johnson joined Rogers as a double-winner. She won the 800 (2:33.92) and 1600 (5:36.6).
Also winning regional titles were Johannesburg's Leigha Webber in the 100 (13.15) and Katelyn Fortin in the 300 hurdles (52.11), Ellsworth's Taylor Hartley in the 3200 (11:56.3) and Bellaire's Molly Poel in the shot put (38'43/4").
Ellsworth won the 3200 relay (10:45.92).
