SAGINAW -- Traverse City Central's Katie Perkins qualified for the Division 1 state track and field finals in three events Friday night at the Saginaw Heritage regional.
Flint Southwestern won the girls team title with 108 points. Flint Carman-Ainsworth was second with 91, Flushing took third with 79 and Traverse City Central fourth with 69. Traverse City West placed eighth with 38.
Perkins had quite a night. She won the 3200 (11:13.34) and placed second in the 1600 (5:17.41). Perkins also teamed with Alison Ostema, Kelsey Minor and Charnele Lyons to capture the 3200 relay (9:47). It's the seventh straight year Central has advanced to the state meet in the 3200 relay.
Another streak continued as Kortney Bower moved on to the state meet in the discus for the third year in a row. Bower finished second (109'3") Friday.
Taylor Mattarella placed third in the 1600 (5:23.01) and 3200 (11:28.36) for the Trojans. She'll advance to the state finals in the 3200.
Meanwhile, Megan Bahra earned a fourth in the 400 (1:00.50) and a fifth in the long jump (16'). Lyons was eighth in the 400 (1:03.7).
Lyons and Ostema finished fifth and sixth in the 800 (2:26.61 and 2:28.58).
Bahra, Aimee Marsh, Katie Fallick and Lyons came in sixth in the 1600 relay (4:14.44)
West had three state qualifiers. Ashley Leitner and Jamie Gotshall finished second and third in the pole vault (10'6 and 10') while Margeaux Raymond came in third in the high jump (5'2").
Also earning points for the Titans: Christine Olson, Mandy Scott, Raymond and Veronica Asch, fourth in the 1600 relay (4:11.85); Elise Carolan, fifth in the 1600 (5:44); Erin Holstad, Jen Bragiel, Lilia Favela and Carolan, fifth in the 3200 relay (10:09); Hannah Rickard, sixth in the 3200 (12:00.28); Kara Pohlman, eighth in the 100 hurdles (16.98); Scott, Sierra Breithaupt, Pohlman and Olson, eighth in the 800 relay (1:52.40).
Carman-Ainsworth won the boys meet with 119 points. Midland Dow was second with 84.5 and Flint Southwestern third with 80.5. Traverse City Central finished 11th (20) and Traverse City West 13th (12).
Central was led by Jacob Secor, who was third in the 3200 in 9:34.95 (converted from the fully automated time). It's the fourth fastest 3200 time in school history. Secor's battling bronchitis.
West's Geoff Burns, who placed seventh in 9:40.8. Burns has missed the entire season with a stress fracture.
Central's Evan Dancer took eighth in the 3200 in 9:44.9. All three qualified for the state meet.
Also placing for the Trojans: Tom Huling, fourth in the pole vault (12'); Ray Gidley, Mike Heim, Derrick Rudolph and Blair Bell, fifth in the 800 relay (1:32.82) and seventh in the 400 relay (44.84); Blair Bell, seventh in the 200 (22.6); Jacob Borysiak, Bell, Rudolph and Dillon Lizenby, seventh in the 1600 relay (3:33.24); and Nick Bruning, eighth in the 1600 (4:44.81).
West placed in three others events: Anthony West, Will Kittendorf, Zach Beeler and John Purdy, fourth in the 800 relay (1:32.8); Heath Bristol, Ben Dean, Miles Ullenbruch and Ray Innis, sixth in the 3200 relay (8:32.7); and Dylan Comer, seventh in the discus (144'7).
