Children's Garden volunteers meet

Traverse City — The May 5 Grand Traverse Area Children's Garden meeting will focus on plans for the annual plant sale.

All volunteers are invited to the 7 p.m. meeting at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Ave.

The plant sale will be held May 15. Donations or plants, garage sale items and seedlings are appreciated. For details or to arrange to have larger items picked up, call 947-0422.

Donations and sponsorships for the coming season also are sought. These may be mailed to GTA Children's Garden, 505 Riverine Drive, Traverse City, MI 49686.

Tea and auction tickets still available

TRAVERSE CITY — Tickets are still available for The Grand Traverse Heritage Center's Spring Garden Tea and Silent Auction.

The event, scheduled for 2-4 p.m. Saturday, May 8, will feature Light of Day Organics tea, coffee and desserts. There will be a presentation by "Dirt Wizard" and NMC Science Lab Manager Kirk Waterstripe on home gardening and the history of local agriculture.

Auction items include gift certificates and garden goods and a garden tour of the Hannah House on Sixth Street is planned, weather permitting.

Y dance Saturday has luau theme

TRAVERSE CITY — This month's teen dance at the YMCA has a luau theme.

The dance will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at the Y's main facility, 3000 Racquet Club Drive. There will be basketball, pizza, pop and music. Hawaiian shirts and leis are encouraged.

Admission is free to YMCA members and $5 per person for the public. ID is required for entry. Parents and volunteers are welcome. Call 421-3568 or e-mail for more information.

Animal adopt-a-thon this weekend

TRAVERSE CITY — AC Paw will hold an adopt-a-thom this weekend.

Animals will be at PetSmart, 2544 Crossing Circle, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 30; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 1; and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 2.
