BATH -- Scott Hebert's excellent summer ended with an explanation point today when he won his third consecutive Michigan PGA Professional Championship.
The 39-year old head pro at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa held his second-round lead and won by three shots after firing a 4-under 68 at Eagle Eye. Hebert won $7,000 for the win.
Hebert came into the final round with a one-shot lead over Mick DeKorver, his former boss at Sunnybrook Country Club. DeKorver's early trouble made it a two-player race between Hebert and Brian Cairns.
Brad Dean of Crystal Mountain ended in sixth place with a total of 216 to win $1,350.
Hebert joins a list of other 3-time Michigan PGA Champions that include Ken Allard, Lynn Janson, Jeff Roth and John Barnum. Al Watrous won the first event in 1922, the first of his nine championships.
Hebert has had a successful summer that included playing in the PGA Championship at Oakland Hills.
He won the PGA Professional National Championship in Georgia, the Michigan Pro-Pro and the McGladderey team event. He's a six-time Michigan Open Champion but had to withdraw this year because his wife went into labor after the first round.
