EAST LANSING -- Scott Hebert is on the verge of becoming a four-time Michigan PGA champion.
The head pro at Grand Traverse Resort & Spa and four-time defending champ extended his lead Tuesday after the second of three rounds at Hawk Hollow and Eagle Eye golf courses.
Play concludes today at Eagle Eye with the winner taking home $7,000.
Hebert played Hawk Hollow Tuesday and shot a 3-under 69. After birdies on the fourth, seventh, 10th and 15th holes, Hebert had his only blemish of the tournament with a bogey on the par-5 13th.
After the two rounds, Hebert is all alone at 9-under par.
Lee Houtteman -- who works with Hebert at GT Resort -- sits in second place at 4-under and five back of the lead.
Houtteman shot par Tuesday at Hawk Hollow. He recovered after a double bogey on the second hole with birdies on No. 4 and 10.
Only five other players are under par heading into the final round.
Knollwood Country Club's Jeff Gniewek, Forest Dunes' Mark Gurnow and Kendall Academy's Dave Kendall all sit at 3-under, Bloomfield Hills Country Club's Sean Winters is at 2-under and TJ Roberts from Walnut Hills Country Club is at 1-under.
Locally, Crystal Mountain's Brad Dean shot 1-under Tuesday to move into a tie for 13th at 1-over.
Petoskey's Keith Grunch shot 5-over Tuesday and is tied for 16th at 2-over along with Manistee National Golf Resort's Ian Ziska, who carded a 3-over 75.
