RAPID CITY -- Nobody in Michigan history has a "big fish" story that can compare to Kyle Anderson's -- at least when it comes to muskellunge.
On Sept. 27, Anderson caught a 50-pound, 8-ounce muskie while fishing on Torch Lake.
The catch for Anderson, a Rapid City resident, was certified by the Department of Natural Resources on Thursday as the new state record.
Charles Edgecomb had the previous honor with a 48-pound fish caught at Skegemog Lake in 1984.
Anderson got the record fish while using a Muskie Magnet. The fish was 56 inches long.
According to a www.fieldandstream.com report, the fish was weighed on a scale at Cherry Ke Inc., a fruit processing plant. The fish was previously trapped by the Michigan DNR in May, tagged and then released.
