Author to address Sierra Club
TRAVERSE CITY -- Dale Franz, author of the "The Pigeon River Country," will address the Traverse Group of the Sierra Club on Tuesday, May 27.

RGS banquet set for June 6
GAYLORD -- The Jim Foote Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society (RGS) will hold its annual sportsmen's banquet on Friday, June 6, at Treetops Resort.
The banquet begins at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. The event will feature a live and silent auction, games, drawings and door prizes.
Tickets are $35 for RGS members, $35 for a member's spouse, $25 for those under 16, and $55 for new or renewing members -- the latter two includes a one year membership. Those under 16, who recently took and passed a hunter education course and/or women who have participated in a recent Outdoors Women program and can verify it, will receive a complimentary dinner ticket when accompanied by a paying adult
Proceeds will be used to restore and protect grouse and woodcock habitat.

TART offers commuting classes
TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation (TART) Trails Inc. will be offering bicycle commuting classes at Northwestern Michigan College.
Dates and times are Thursday, May 22, from 4-7 p.m. and Thursday, June 12, from 4-7 p.m. Classes will be at Scholars Hall, room 102.
Classes will be taught by Reuben Chapman, a League of American Bicyclists certified instructor. Course content will include riding with traffic, signaling, bike attire and gear, choosing routes, and more. The class will be interactive and will include a short bike ride on main roads, peripheral streets, bike lanes and on trails.

Ride of Silence slated for May 21
TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation (TART) Trails is co-hosting the Ride of Silence with the Cherry Capital Cycling Club on May 21.
It will start at 6:30 pm at the Station Espresso Bar. The ride aims to raise cycling awareness during bike safety month.
