Editorial: Stabenow for Senate again

Sen. Debbie Stabenow has earned another six years in the U.S. Senate in part because of her work crafting a well-received Farm Bill and her aggressive stance on preventing Asian Carp from reaching Lake Michigan.

Though the Farm Bill stalled in the House, it was praised for addressing agricultural subsidies and helping specialty crop farmers. She was widely endorsed by farm, business and veterans groups.

It's hard to tell what has come over her Republican opponent, former U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, who had been known for his pragmatic work on the House Intelligence Committee. From his racially-tinged Super Bowl spot to a series of TV ads proclaiming Stabenow the "worst senator," Hoekstra has lost touch with the issues and his constituents.

Stabenow deserves another term.
