Editorial: Guns on campus terrible policy
The issue: Wayne Schmidt and Michelle McManus sponsored recent legislation that would prevent the state's public universities, colleges and community colleges from banning concealed weapons on campus. The issue: The Grand Traverse County Road Commission may have thoughts about seeking a county-wide road millage. Our view: Tuesday's voting in Acme and East Bay townships doesn't bode well.
The issue: Manistee is poised to become Hollywood Midwest. Or maybe Hollywood North Woods, or Hollywood Northwest Lower Peninsula. Whatever it's called, Manistee is now in the movie business. Our view: Reinventing itself is nothing new. It's the chameleon of the north.
The issue: Nearly a month ago Leelanau County Sheriff Mike Oltersdorf pledged to investigate allegations that deputies unlawfully entered Leelanau County homes at least five times. Our view: It's time to get the investigation going.

The issue: It seems likely that Charter Communications is going to move local public access channels into what some have described as a cable TV gulag. Our view: Charter must ensure that its customers who purchase the lowest tier of service continue to have public access channels available to them.
The Issue: The decision to shut down Traverse City and Kingsley schools for a week due to the swine flu epidemic. Our View: Taking steps to avoid an even wider flu outbreak was a good choice, despite tough repercussions for so many.
The issue: For the second time in two years Grand Traverse County has managed to tick off employees and taxpayers alike over related issues: pay raises for county employees and a deeply flawed wage study. Our view: The whole thing is a mess.
