Christmas Cookie and book sale set

Beulah — The Friends of the Darcy Library will hold a two-day Christmas Cookie and Book Sale and are looking for volunteers to bake cookies and work at the sale.

The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday, at the Beulah Trailhead Building. Cookies are $6 a pound and buyers may hand-select the type and quantity they wish to purchase. All books are new or gently used. Proceeds support the library's book budget.

Grand Traverse Democrats to meet

traverse city — All Democrats are invited to attend the Grand Traverse County Democratic Executive Board meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, at the Michigan Education Association office, 1745 Barlow St.

Bring non-perishable food items to donate to area food banks.

Mattresses bought, mattresses donated

For every mattress set bought from now until Jan. 2, the Bedroom Co. will donate a twin mattress set to a child in need.

The donations will be handled through Child and Family Services.

Big Give dinner, auction aid pantries

Kaleva — A spaghetti dinner and silent auction will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bethany Lutheran Church, in Kaleva, to raise money for those in need this season. Big Give 2010 will raise money for the food pantries of Manistee, supporting Kaleva, Brethren, Onekama and Marilla.

The dinner cost is by monetary donation and includes spaghetti, salad and dessert. Many items will be on hand for the silent auction, including a Victorian-style doll and handmade items, as well as gift certificates from places such as Kaleva Country Flowers, Crystal Mountain, Kaleva Countryside Restaurant, Jackpine, Big Al's, Kaleva Meats and more.

All proceeds will benefit the local food pantries, which help to feed many area families in need.

The Big Give 2010 is still accepting donations for the silent auction up until Friday. If you would like to make a donation to the silent auction, or a monetary donation to the Big Give 2010 for the food pantries, contact Roxanne Hill at 362-3635.
