Festival of Trains open for holidays

TRAVERSE CITY — The History Center of Traverse City's Festival of Trains, will be held through Sunday, Jan. 2, at the History Center of Traverse City (formerly the Grand Traverse Heritage Center), 322 Sixth St.

Hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. The festival is closed on Christmas Day.

Admission is $5 per adult, $3 per senior (age 65-plus) and $2 per youth (ages 4 through 17); children 3 and under are free. A family pass is available at $20 for unlimited visits to the festival.

Rocks wanted for teaching wall

EAST JORDAN — The Raven Hill Discovery Center wants your rocks and fossils.

The center is building a rock Teaching Wall framing the entrance to a new great room. Rocks and fossils — from fist- to melon-sized — can be donated to be part of the wall. Rough and polished rocks will be permanently cemented to the wall appearing alongside related rocks.

Bring your rocks and fossils to the center at 4737 Fuller Road in East Jordan, or call 536-3369 to have them picked up.

Double-feature silent movies on tap

TRAVERSE CITY — The Music House Museum will sponsor a double-feature silent movie at 7 p.m. Sunday at the First Congregational Church, 6105 Center Road. "Along Came Auntie" starring Tryon and Hardy, and "Love 'em and Weep," starring Laurel and Hardy, will be accompanied by Dale Zeiger on the Casavant Pipe Organ.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for 18 and under; family tickets are $25. Tickets are available at the door. For information, call 938-9300, or visit www.musichouse.org.

Skating team holds Learn to Skate class

TRAVERSE CITY — Want to learn how to skate? Traverse City Combined Varsity High School Figure Skating Team is holding a Learn to Skate Clinic fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, and Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Centre Ice in Traverse City. Cost is $6 per skater per day, but rental skates are free. All ages are welcome.
