Heart health event available to women

TRAVERSE CITY — As part of Munson Medical Center's ongoing Women's Heart Health efforts, area women again will have the opportunity for a one-on-one heart disease screening the week of Nov. 29 at Munson Community Health Center.

Screenings and tests will include blood pressure, body mass index, stress and depression levels, nutrition review, smoking and alcohol assessments, family medical history review and a blood test for glucose, lipid profile and cholesterol.

Participants will leave with a personalized action plan, including an educational DVD, risk-factor reduction material for improving health, and referrals for further cardiac care as needed.

Cost for the program is $45 and grants are available. To schedule an appointment, call 935-8561.

Those who complete the comprehensive screening are eligible for a six-week women's exercise class. The next class begins in January. Cost for the class is $90, and grants are available.

OM Women's Club hosts cookie sale

TRAVERSE CITY — The Old Mission Women's Club will hold its 15th annual Christmas Cookie Sale.

Members use their most treasured recipes to create a large assortment of delicious and elegant cookies for the sale, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at Peninsula Township Fire Station #2 on Center Road.

Cookies are $7 a pound and decorated containers will be provided.

Proceeds will support the club's philanthropic work.

Lions Club offers fresh-cut Yule trees

MAPLE CITY — The Cedar/Maple City Lions Club again will offer fresh-cut Christmas trees for holiday decorating.

Customers may pick and cut their own, or club members will be on hand to help, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays, Nov. 27 and Dec. 4, 11 and 18; and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays, Nov. 28 and Dec. 5, 12 and 19.

The location is on the north side of M-72 about 11½ miles west of Toms' West Bay Market.

A donation of $10 for spruce trees or $25 for Douglas fir trees is requested.

Proceeds will help fund the club's charitable projects.

Charlevoix holds tree-lighting fest

CHARLEVOIX — A Community Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday in East Park.

Children can visit and have their picture taken with Santa Claus at Charlevoix Circle of Arts, 109 Clinton St.

Youngsters also can decorate an ornament supplied by Charlevoix Children's House and Northwestern Bank and hang it on the Community Christmas tree.

Christmas carols will begin at 5 p.m. in East Park. There also will be hot cocoa and cookies. The evening will come to a close with Santa lighting the Community Christmas tree at 6 p.m.
