Community apple pressing day

EAST JORDAN -- Wagbo Farm will help keep an autumn rural tradition alive by hosting a community apple pressing event.

Apple pressing will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Martha Wagbo Farm and Education Center. Attendees can bring their own apples to press into cider or bring containers to fill with cider for a suggested donation of $5 a gallon.

Wagbo Farm is located at 5745 N. M-66. For more information, call 536-0333.

Church hosts Hallelujah party

TRAVERSE CITY -- Fellowship Church will offer a positive Halloween alternative for the entire family.

The Hallelujah Party will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the church, 2555 Garfield Road. There will be dinner, games, a cake walk, a costume contest (no scary costumes) and lots of candy. For details, call 947-6520.

Candidate speaking at Benzie meeting

FRANKFORT -- Congressional candidate Bill Huizenga will talk at the next meeting of the Republican Women of Benzie County.

Huizenga, of Zeeland, served in Michigan's House of Representatives from 2003-08.

The meeting is open to everyone and will be held at the Betsie Bay Inn on Main Street in Frankfort beginning at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 2.

The cost is $13, payable at the door. Reservations are suggested by Oct. 29; call 882-4112.

Garden club honors beautification

TRAVERSE CITY -- The Friendly Garden Club of Traverse City has awarded its annual beautification awards.

Cherry Capital Airport and A.L. Mitchell Associates were both honored for community beautification. The awards are based on first impression, design function, design elements, maintenance and final impression.

Antique store donating to charity

TRAVERSE CITY -- Bay West Antiques, 221 W. Grandview Parkway, is donating 10 percent of its gold jewelry purchases to three local nonprofits.

The drive began Oct. 12 and owner Holly Dalley said she has raised more than $500 so far for the Father Fred Foundation, Community Meals and the Grand Traverse Baby Pantry. The drive continues through Dec. 12.
