The association, the nation's largest high-tech trade group, has a vested interest in telecommuting. Its members would love to sell more laptop computers like those that are becoming permanent fixtures on many kitchen tables. But there is also a public interest in keeping us out of the office. A report ... says Americans could save 1.35 billion gallons of gasoline annually if every worker who could work from home did so one or two days a week. ... Telecommuting experts say the most successful programs start at the top, when a company's leadership sees the advantages and pushes for people to work remotely. ... Go for it. Clean the air, cool the planet and reduce your stress level. Help your company, and the computer industry, stay in business. All by staying home. Sacramento Bee
