Never a peaceful solution

This letter is inspired by the Feb. 4 Associated Press article "Bullying lessens for gay teens, study: Gay men have it worse than lesbian counterparts." I do believe the intended information is positive. However, what I find upsetting is the need to segregate the issue. The abuse and violence against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people is equally horrific. The impact upon the individual cannot be justified as more or less traumatic or painful.

We all must continue to work hard individually to fight for the issues that we find most passionate within our hearts. Yet collectively we must come together as one human race — equality for all people who have suffered oppression.

Why must it always come down to the boys against the girls? Violence against another human being to create superiority or to dictate biased justice is never a peaceful solution for humanity.

Respect for life declining

As we approach the 40th anniversary of Roe v Wade we need to take a sober look at the devastating results. Fifty-five million unborn babies killed. Abortion interrupts the mother's natural bodily functions, often causing harmful mental and physical side effects. The role of fathers has been sorely down played. Families have been fractured. Society as a whole has been altered dramatically. Economically, millions less taxpayers and Social Security contributors.

The respect for human life has been declining since Roe. Take a good look around you today and you see it in the headlines and in the media. Violence and killing is commonplace. As we wring our hands and ask why, one thing is clear. If you can take the life of an unborn child, why not a born child.

Until we come to terms with that infamous decision on that Black Monday in 1973 it will only escalate. This country at one time embraced the sanctity of human life. I pray that one day it will again.
