Forum: Issue of abortion is a moral one

I don’t believe the abortion issue is only a Catholic issue or a Protestant issue or a Jewish issue or a political issue, or a social issue. Rather, I see this as a moral issue.

Without the voice of pro-life supporters all each child would have is a silent scream from the darkness as the medical procedure begins to abort the life of the child. This year marks the 41st anniversary of the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion. The result has been the loss of life of approximately 57 million children.

Think of that number. It’s staggering. Each child had no ability to defend itself or advocate for itself in the decision-making process. I hear much about a mother’s right to choose or a father’s right, but I ask, what about the child’s right? The only one who will suffer the consequence of the parents decision is the child.

In our society today the sanctity of human life is being diminished as evidenced by the 57 million children who were denied birth. Who are we to choose who lives and who doesn’t? Abortion is permanent. There are no do-overs. I’ve seen the economy improve after a recession. I’ve seen relationships heal after difficulties. I’ve never witnessed a child resurrected after an abortion has been performed. Who are we to decide who lives and who doesn’t?

I recently saw a billboard with a picture of a child, and the caption, “Take my hand, not my life”. If it were possible to interview each child at any stage of development from conception to birth, and each one was asked if they would rather be born than face an abortion, I can say without any doubt, each child would choose life. Why would we deny them that right, the right to life?
