Not much has changed

The Record-Eagle published this letter of mine in October 2003. It is frightening how relative these realities are today. I am re-submitting it now with minor adjustments for clarity.

America is in a world of hurt. We have become a people who will not listen to moderation. It seems that only extremist elements get our attention. Using our TV remotes, we are pointing and clicking ourselves into policies that are destroying the middle class, and forcing us into a nation of just the rich and the poor.

Gov. Granholm is trying to correct millions of dollars of debt in Michigan by cutting every program in sight, not understanding that there is no such thing as tax relief, only a shift of tax burden.

George Bush’s war on terrorism will put generations of people into an economic hole that will take 100 years to fix, and for what? We can win the battle, but not the war. When we finally leave what I call, “Vietnam 2,” extremist elements will go back to killing each other. They won’t even remember this bump in the road called “peace.”

Meanwhile, Homeland Security is “protecting us” by tracking innocent Americans.
