---- — Vastly more dangerous

In a Jan. 5 Forum article, two oil and gas industry ‘experts‘ claimed ‘a sea of facts’ about fracking.“ … the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, independent experts and officials within the Obama administration have all affirmed the safety and importance of hydraulic fracturing.”

Actually, the fact is the industry has thwarted attempts to determine if horizontal fracking is safe. There are numerous documented cases of well pollution, seismic events, illegal dumping of toxic chemicals, leaks and other environmental damage.

“Fracking has been done safely for decades.”

Actually, horizontal fracking is a new process that is vastly more dangerous and destructive than the old vertical wells that are safe and have been producing natural gas “for decades“.

“Since shale development began in earnest … our country has reduced CO2 emissions to their lowest level in 20 years …”

The fact is, the recession caused a huge drop in all fossil fuel consumption accompanied by a dramatic increase in alternative energy and energy conservation.

Then there‘s this phrase, “ … balancing the need to protect our state’s natural resources with the need for human progress.”

It’s typical of an industry mindset that equates “human progress” with the unfortunate need to destroy the environment.
