The picture of grace

President Barack Hussein Obama vilified President George W. Bush during the 2008 presidential election, his entire first term as president, the 2012 presidential election and the first three months of his second term.

He had the audacity to attend the George W. Bush Library dedication, saying the following prior to attending: “I’m really looking forward to attending the Bush library opening tomorrow. One of the things I will insist upon is whatever our political differences, President Bush loves this country and loves its people and shares that same concern, and was concerned about all people in America, not just those who voted Republican.”

Obama, without class, politicked for immigration legislation during his speech at the library opening. First Lady Michelle Obama, during the 2008 presidential campaign said, “For the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country.” Is President Obama now “finally proud of his country?”

Through all the utterances of President Obama vilifying Bush, the former president has been the picture of grace, not once saying anything remotely insulting about Obama or his wife or second-guessing President Obama’s decisions, and instead treating them with all the deference a sitting president might expect.

Stewardship appreciated

In case it hasn’t been acknowledged lately, The Meadows at Hickory Hills certainly are regularly appreciated by so many folks — what a joy to escape into this land where the buffalo once roamed.

The fine stewardship of this property by the Grand Traverse Conservation District and the Oleson family, under the umbrella of the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy, includes year-round groomed trails, mowed hay fields and the good conscience to plow down that incredible — and unauthorized — bike ramp course recently. That scenario only brought to mind a “Life is Good” T-shirt depicting three stick figures, roasting sticks in hand, peering out over a blazing bonfire in the foreground. The caption: “It’s all fun and games ‘till someone gets their wiener burnt!”

So for all involved in this ongoing work please know that you have the unending gratitude of countless hikers, cyclists, dog walkers, frolfers (Frisbee golfers), cross country skiers, those who snowshoe and other local wildlife.
