Educated decisions

Kudos to Erin McDonough’s April 28 comments on how to manage game species in Michigan, especially wolves.

The key is having professional biologists make educated decisions on game management and not “ballot-box biology” do it.

This certainly was the case with the mourning dove issue back in 1996.

Wayne Pacelle’s comments of the same day are misspeak, i.e. wolf populations are not decreasing, politicians do not want to wipe out wolves, and the $1 million appropriation is for managing fish and wildlife.

The Humane Society and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals play the bleeding heart role and have no idea what game management means.

Just look at what wolves in northern Idaho/western Montana have done to the Elk herds without effective game management

Leave it to the professionals.

There is a place for all of God’s animals, some right next to the mashed potatoes.

Makes more sense

Few would argue against a new library for Kalkaska, but the library commission seems to be determined to build a memorial to a past librarian. Rather than build on a hidden site west of U.S. 131 there are some well-built modern buildings available at a fraction of the cost on the main street in Kalkaska. This just makes more sense.
