Uphold the law

Uphold Michigan’s Right to Farm Act. Please do not put this law into place. Too many of our residents need and desire to have good food for their family. Do not put our families in government control! If you love the Michigan families think twice before you enact this law.

Replace pipelines

Was glad to read your article on May 1, “Michigan officials seek assurances on pipeline” Finally, Michigan legislators are doing something.

I wrote a letter to Gov. Snyder on Jan. 23 to convey concerns about a possible failure of the 61-year-old Enbridge Co. pipelines under the Straits of Mackinac that carry gooey Canadian tar sands oil at elevated temperature and pressure and at an increased flow rate of 25 million gallons per day.

I urged him to force Enbridge to replace the old pipelines; welds can crack and leak, causing a blowout like the Enbridge pipeline did (Kalamazoo River) three years ago. I said that this would be a disaster for the Great Lakes. I also attached a front page Wall Street Journal article (Jan. 21) and a Northern Express article (Jan. 20) and urged viewing a YouTube video (“Sunken Hazard-NWF Dives Under Water Mackinac Pipeline”) to strengthen my case.

No response.

I’ve no confidence in any Enbridge assurances. Officials should demand that shut-off valves be installed upstream of the Straits and reliable, sensitive monitors be installed along the lines.
