Traverse City Record-Eagle

---- — Makes us feel safe

The Record-Eagle’s May 4 front page showed a picture of a person carrying a loaded handgun on his hip. He stated it “was a tool to defend himself and others.”

It sure makes a person feel safe to have a patriot like that in our community.

An income is better

Late last fall I kept our boat in the marina for about 10 days and I believe the fee was about $55 per day. I asked the staff if they offered fall rates and was told no. Not using the boat and paying over $50 per day I called Elk Rapids to check their rates. They offer a two-for-one rate in the off season to encourage people to come to their marina. Charlevoix city marina also offers a reduced two-for-one rate in the spring and fall. I ended up moving our boat to Elk Rapids for the rest of the season because of the reduced fees. If our city marina would have offered a two-for-one matching rate I would have stayed. While they would not have collected $55 per day they would have collected half of that and most likely attracted more boats to come in and support the marina.

Better to have a reduced rate and have income than hold out for full prices and see nothing but empty slips. Just a thought …
