A huge challenge

It must be quite clear to the Republican National Committee that they will not win another presidential election unless they can somehow appeal to women, the elderly, college students, African Americans, Latinos, gays, the middle class and the poor.

It is a huge challenge. So, for the RNC, the question is, how can we effectively lie to so many people?

Groups seek solution

Ten local, state and national organizations have joined together in calling on The Homestead Resort and the Michigan DEQ to work together to correct the problem of incompletely treated sewage spray blowing into a portion of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, rendering it unavailable for public use.

The Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes, Michigan Environmental Council, National Parks Conservation Association, Leelanau Independent Women for Democratic Action, Michigan Land Use Institute, National Audubon Society, Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation, Sierra Club, Northern Michigan Environmental Action Coalition and Drifters United came together in issuing this plea.

The statement reads (in part), “Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is the signature National Park area in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. As such, it is a treasured public resource that must be protected for the use and benefit of all. During recent years, it has been documented that partially-treated wastewater from The Homestead Resort blows into National Lakeshore park areas, which now display warning signs and are effectively lost to the public.”
