Neal Ronquist: Quite the first impression

‘You never get a second chance to make a first impression.”

Well, Traverse City and the surrounding region, you’re doing an exceptional job of living up to that expression.

My initial impression of the region — and especially its people — is one of awe and inspiration. It’s easy to see why so many fall in love so quickly with this part of the world. The natural beauty of the Grand Traverse Bay area is striking. Yet I’ve quickly discovered it is the people who are the true gems.

The region’s people share an entrepreneurial and collaborative spirit, which, combined with their incredible intellect and genuine caring and kindness, provides the energy and infrastructure that truly makes this a special place.

Your thoughtfulness and exuberance for the community you call home is contagious. I’ve caught the bug.

Living and working in such a vibrant place leads one to contemplate endless possibilities. It’s a place that screams “Don’t be afraid to dream big, because dreams do come true”

This community’s passion is evident within the Record-Eagle’s walls, as well. Record-Eagle employees also have made quite the favorable first impression on me.

A group of dedicated and talented professionals dreams big and gives it their collective all every day to best serve the residents of Traverse City and the surrounding region. The Record-Eagle will continue to produce the quality news stories and effective advertisements traditionally found in its pages, and we will embrace the technological and economic challenges of the times, listen to our customers and create new means to inform and entertain the community.

We may miss the mark on occasion, but it won’t be owed to a lack of effort, a lack of professionalism or a lack of passion for the community in which we work and call home. We expect to hear from you on how we’re doing, or not doing, but know we will always be our toughest critics. We take the businesses of journalism seriously, and will never apologize for our pursuit of the truth and transparency — it’s our way of demonstrating our heartfelt, ink-stained passion for this community.

Meanwhile, I’ll continue to work hard to make sure the first impression I leave on you when we meet comes close to the incredible impression you have left on me.
