Blood on our hands

The National Rifle Association has taken the form of a cult religion. The high priests demand their followers believe certain “truths” based upon manufactured fears/lies, regardless of how destructive, irrational and self-defeating. It’s incredible how many people believe these false prophets, especially with over 33 gun-related deaths a day.

We focus our attention on assault weapons (as we should), but far more deadly are the handguns used by adolescents in cities and by others elsewhere. It’s all about profits for the gun industry and their representatives, the NRA and many in Congress at the state and federal level.

America banned assault rifles until Congress (with NRA pressure and campaign contributions) changed its mind. We continue down the path of more unnecessary handguns, high-caliber weapons and larger ammunition clips, and the NRA dictates we not have universal background checks for gun purchases.

Eliminate large ammunition clips and assault weapons, require stringent background checks and specific reasons (not self-defense) for all gun purchases, including handguns.

Because we accept the fake fear and misrepresentation/misinterpretation of the Second Amendment created by this cult, we all have blood on our hands for allowing this to continue.

St. Clair more culpable

Liz Kirkwood and Bob Otwell of F.L.O.W. certainly have impressive credentials regarding Great Lakes water issues. However, it was most curious that their Forum of Feb, 24 failed to mention that at present far more water is diverted into the Great Lakes Basin through the Longlac and Ogoki diversions into Lake Superior than is diverted out of the Basin at Chicago and by several smaller diversions in the United States. The fact is that these two diversions of the Albany River system in Ontario into Lake Superior total 3.6 billion gallons a day, far more than the 2.1 billion gallons per day diverted out through the Chicago diversion (source: waterwars.wordpress.com and other commonly available sources).

Chicago is not draining Lakes Michigan/Huron. As far as man-made alterations affecting Great Lakes Michigan/Huron levels, the St. Clair River project is far more culpable.
