To the Natural Resources Trust Fund, which is expected to pour more than $5 million into public recreation sites in the region. Projects include: $2.5 million for more than eight acres of the Old Mooring Place on Old Mission Peninsula for a new boat launch; adding 60 acres to Bowers Harbor Park; $1 million to fill gaps in state-owned land near Strombolis Lake in Grand Traverse County; $700,000 to fill gaps in state-owned land near Dair Creek in Benzie County; $270,000 to add more than 2,500 feet of frontage on the Boardman River; $162,500 for improvements at Thurston Park in Central Lake; $30,900 for play structures at Sands Park in Kalkaska County.

n To the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District Board of Education for deciding to record its monthly meetings and post them on its website for public review. ISD Superintendent Mike Hill said the board decided to test the technology and likely will continue from now on.

n To Lou Batori a local skiing legend at age 103, who recently did some downhil at Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville. Batori is the oldest racer in NASTAR history and was featured in a segment on CBS Sunday morning three years ago. Batori said he likes to “... look at the slopes,” while he’s out..”It’s more inspirational than the best architecture in the world.”

n To the League of Women Voters Leelanau County for hosting a presentation on hydraulic fracturing. Christopher Grobbel, an environmental consultant with Traverse City-based Grobbel Environmental and Planning Associates, was to speak about the risks of oil and gas development and potential solutions.

n To Traverse City West Senor High School senior Dakota Lee, who won a $10,000 scholarship to Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids. Lee was among 130 high school seniors from across the country to attend the college’s annual Art Day Competition. Students brought their three best pieces. Dakota is an apprentice with his father Ram Lee, a tattoo artist.
