Move to Somalia
The current Republican Party is a disgrace. Republicans these days typically love to wrap themselves in the flag - they love to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and flaunt what they describe as their “patriotism.”
But when Barack Obama was elected president did their elected congressional representatives focus on doing what was best for the country?
No, instead they made their main goal trying to ensure that Obama would not be re-elected. When that didn’t work (despite Republicans’ best efforts to disenfranchise as many Democratic voters as possible), they turned their attention to trying to undo a major piece of progressive and forward-looking legislation passed under his leadership, even if their extortion attempt means bringing the country to its knees.
Listen, you Republicans - if you want to live in a country where everybody is armed to the teeth and there’s no government, please move to Somalia.
Taxpayers have spoken
Michigan has a longstanding policy against tax dollars paying for or subsidizing abortions. In 1972 voters rejected the legalization of abortion 61 percent to 39 percent. A few months later Roe v Wade became the law of the land by the Supreme Court. In 1988 voters upheld the ban on Medicaid abortions 57 percent to 43 percent (no rape or incest exceptions).
Michigan’s ban on partial birth abortion included no rape or incest exceptions. Michigan’s 24 hour waiting period no exceptions for rape and incest.
With the questions raised in the editorial of Oct. 8 many states across the country have already responded and passed this type of “abortion opt-out” provision.
This legislation allows insurance to cover the treatment of pregnant women who are experiencing physical conditions which threaten their lives, are experiencing a miscarriage or have ectopic pregnancies. Bottom line is Michigan taxpayers do not want to pay for abortion in the Affordable Care Act.
