---- — Walker did right thing

As a family practice physician in the area since 2005 and as the current President of the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians I would like to extend my appreciation to Sen. Walker for his leadership in support of expanding Medicaid funding in the state of Michigan. He provided one of the pivotal votes that will ensure that hundreds of thousands of uninsured residents in our state will get medical coverage in 2014 and beyond. His “yes” vote will lead to a better quality of life for those currently uninsured, to the creation of thousands of health care jobs, and to a more stable and equitable healthcare system in general.

Sen. Walker certainly did the right thing.

Preserving dignity

Accolades to Howard Walker for standing up for his campaign promise to support health care in rural areas of Michigan. Strengthening Medicaid in the state will help keep hospitals in the region on financially sound footing. Walker’s conservative critics need to know that good health care policy is not a political issue, it’s about providing access while preserving dignity and humanity for those less fortunate.

I applaud Howard Walker for doing the right thing at a time when most politicians have a hard time doing anything.
