Didn’t dig deep enough

The Feb. 16 report headlined “Girl Scouts not idolizing pro-abortion icons” did not dig deep enough. For example, Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, is not someone most young girls would want to look up to when you read some of her statements.

Let’s take the issue of birth control. The purpose of promoting birth control was “to create a race of thoroughbred,” she wrote in the Birth Control Review, Nov. 1921.

On the rights of handicapped, mentally ill and racial minorities she wrote, “More children from the fit, less from the unfit — that is the chief aim of birth control.” (Birth Control Review, May 1919, p. 12)

Regarding abortion she wrote, “The most merciful thing that a large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.” (Eugenics Publ. Co., 1920, 1923 under the title Women and the New Race)

Margaret Sanger was an extremist, a very poor role model for young girls who are forming ideas and opinions on life issues.
