Carriers got through

The extreme weather over the past weeks wreaked havoc in cities across our state. Many of our communities suffered through power outages, snow storms and sub-zero temperatures.

I thank our many postal workers who were resilient in spite of these circumstances. We had record snow and cold temperatures, yet they bundled up, came to work and braved the elements (frigid wind chills, snowbound streets and sidewalks). They processed the mail, drove it safely from our plants to our stations and delivered it to our customers. This speaks to the dedication the job requires and has historically been a hallmark of the Postal Service

I also thank the many customers who kept approaches to their mailboxes cleared for the carriers to safely deliver the mail.

As a federal entity, which receives no tax dollars, the U.S. Postal Service is charged with the specific mission of delivering the nation’s mail. Customers count on us and expect us to deliver and provide an essential service, regardless the weather.

Again, my sincerest thanks to all of the postal employees in the Greater Michigan District. I am very proud of their outstanding performance.

Charles E. Howe
