- To Traverse City Central and Traverse City West’s high school hockey teams, which played a game last week on a frozen-over Comerica Park baseball field as part of the Hockeytown Winter Festival. Traverse City West hung on for a 4-3 win despite being outshot 35-18. The win also snapped Central’s 24-game Big North Conference unbeaten streak.

- To documentary filmmaker Michael Moore’s 1989 film “Roger and Me,” which was among 25 films to be preserved in the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry. The film will join 624 others that have been chosen for their “great cultural, historic or aesthetic significance,” according to the Library of Congress.

“As a filmmaker, this is truly one of the top honors you can receive in this country,” Moore said. In the film, Moore continually tries to contact then-General Motors CEO Roger Smith to talk about the company’s layoffs of 30,000 workers in Flint. Moore is a co-founder of the Traverse City Film Festival.

- To Ty Schmidt and Bob Otwell, part of a group of devoted cyclists who have spent the past month pulling miniature snow plows behind their bikes around Traverse City. The cyclists crank their way along uncleared neighborhood sidewalks and sections of the TART trails. The effort is the brainchild of TART board member Tom Auer, who built some of the prototype plows the group uses. The rigs resemble V-shaped plows fitted to locomotives during winter months.

- To the History Center of Traverse City on Sixth Street for again hosting the Festival of Trains at the History Center. The Festival is scheduled to run through Jan. 4 but will be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

- To all those who donated to Christy Wiesen, who collected money to help rebuild her family’s home in Medellin, Philippines, after it was destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan. Wiesen made a plea for help in early November after the typhoon.
