Keep it beautiful

Another successful Ladies Night in downtown Traverse City. I look forward to this event every winter. It’s always so much fun. I love the camaraderie, the atmosphere and the unending friendliness of shoppers and shopkeepers alike. I love shopping downtown any time of year, but this particular night is my favorite.

I was surprised, and dismayed, however, to realize that not one shop offered recycled-paper or compostable glasses for drinks. And no recycling bins were available in any of the shops, just tons of plastic, disposable glasses.

Perhaps a solution would be to have glasses available, such as the champagne glasses used by Pavlova, which could be purchased and refilled at any of the downtown shops offering drinks during the evening, a great keepsake and great way to reduce the huge amount of plastic trash.

If not, I ask and encourage downtown businesses to become more environmentally responsible and conscious, and consider compostable/recycled glasses, plates and napkins for Ladies and Men’s Night. We live in one of the most beautiful places on the planet, and with that honor comes the responsibility of doing everything we can to keep it that way.

Shop locally. Shop downtown Traverse City.
