Above the law?

Traverse City Mayor Michael Estes being allowed to plea down from a driving under the influence charge to impaired driving is ridiculous. My daughter was a first-offense OUI with a blood alcohol level of 0.10 and was not even pulled over, avoided a deer and hit a tree, was not allowed to plea down to impaired yet our mayor of our town is?

I find this appalling. This is yet another cover up of a government official to keep things looking better than they really are. The prosecutor should be ashamed to allow this.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Or is he above the law?

Family destroyed

On Nov. 5, a representative of Goodwill announced to the employees of Paperworks Studio that a strategic management team was considering the sale of Paperworks and, if a sale was to occur, it was likely the employees would be “transitioned” to employment in “high-growth sectors.”

Goodwill has decided to dump Paperworks as it was not “positioned to compete on a scale that would make it financially viable in the long term.”

Did Goodwill believe that anyone in the room gave a damn or even understood the concepts of strategic planning and financial viability? What the employees did understand was that they would no longer have jobs at a place which has become their family — a safe haven where people love each other, support each other, tease each other and bicker with, and about, each other. Their family is being destroyed.

Goodwill has made a decision based on revenue, a decision which is unconscionable and flies in the face of “Good Will.”
