Compassion, respect

I was shocked and saddened to read that one of our city commissioners had referred publicly to some street people as "drunken bums, people who are dope heads ..."

As the city continues to grapple with how to address problems occurring in the Jay Smith Walkway and other public areas, let the discussions be conducted with the compassion and respect that all human beings deserve.

Go Lions

Concerning the NHL lockout, I was born in Flint, am a lifelong basketball, football and baseball fan, and I also played. I always swore you couldn't pay me to go to a hockey game. Still new to the Traverse City area, I know hockey is gold up here.

But, I don't care if they cancel the season. Where was everyone a year ago during the NBA lockout? The whole thing makes me laugh. Go Lions.
