A personal attack

The Oct. 26 editorial "cartoon" depicts former Vice President Dick Cheney passing out Halloween treats to two children who say "better make sure we check for razor blades ..."

This contemptible, very personal attack is unjustified and unworthy of a newspaper that aspires to distinguished journalistic standards.

These kind of attacks are common in the rough and tumble world of politics but this "cartoon" has nothing to do with politics.

What is the point of this juvenile nonsense?

Judging Obama

After ten months, I've learned:

Obama is the president. Not the black president or the African-American president, just the plain old president, like the other 43. It's not us regular folks who need to hyphenate him; that's his choice.

I'm judging him, at his own request, by the people with whom he surrounds himself. Rev. Wright. Bill Ayres. Van Jones. In my opinion, they are all nuts -- dangerous nuts. For Obama to say he didn't know they espoused such extreme views, is statistically unbelievable.

He is narcissistic. It's all about him. When does he start accepting some responsibility? He has to have the Troubled Asset Relief Program bill passed now. The health care reform passed now. There is no compromising. It's his way or the highway. And it's never his fault.

He is arrogant. If his nose gets any farther into the air, he'll drown in a rainstorm.

He is a liar. He said he'd be a uniter, not a divider, yet he plays the "race card" at the drop of a hat. He said he would have a transparent presidency yet the health care reform bill is being finalized behind closed doors.

I hope he grows into his office.
