Restaurant is missed

New restaurants are popping up all over Traverse City and some are really good, but for those of us who have lived here for many years, the passing of Windows on M-22 as a respite from common fare is lamentable, proving the old adage about not realizing a good thing until it is no longer there. Absolutely great food at reasonable prices will probably never be available as it was when Phil (and Marilyn) Murray prepared it for their loyal clientele.

How we miss it and them; let me count the ways.

TC's spirit of giving

As new full-time residents to the Traverse City area, we are constantly in awe of the spirit of giving in the area.

May 10 was another splendid example of people helping others, as U.S. Postal Service mail carriers picked up generous (and heavy!) donations of food left by households along their routes. They then brought nearly 11,000 pounds of canned and packaged goods to the UAW Hall in Traverse City, where it was sorted by volunteers who then packaged it for 11 food pantries in the Grand Traverse area.

The donations were delivered the same day to the food pantries where, in these difficult economic times, children and adults will receive the food they need to make it through another day.

We applaud each of those who took time on their Saturday to make the needs of others their priority.

Nobody is above the law

Yes, I believe both Bush and Cheney should be impeached. More than impeached, they should go to trial for all the laws they have broken and for all of the laws they have illegally instated, and also for all the times they have violated the U.S. Constitution (while under the presidential and vice-presidential oaths to defend the Constitution against all who try to violate it.) Nobody is above the law.

I can't understand why we are not rising against them. A revolt against faulty leadership does not mean that I am not patriotic. In fact, speaking out, and holding people (all people) accountable for their actions is the greatest ideal that America represents ... is the basic right upon which the United States was founded.

Please do your research on all of the illegal acts that have taken place under the Bush administration. It will be eye-opening, I guarantee!

Let's get moving and show the world that the people of this great nation are still honorable. There is no wrong time to do the right thing.
